Ubuntu 10.10, bye bye Windows

So last week I was installing some updates that ubuntu had been moaning at me for ages to do and when I restarted, to my horror, I was unable to log in. I was stuck in low graphics mode and my keyboard and mouse not working. There was no help from the support forums about how to fix it, I know that my xconf file had got corrupted but I figured it would be an excuse to upgrade to the latest and greatest: Ubuntu 10.10.

This was an adventure, I downloaded the boot cd and started ubuntu that way. I decided to get a wee big cocky and go on firefox to check my e-mails before starting the install. I started the install and just as it was erasing the chosen partition it froze and to make matters worse when I rebooted and started the cd all my partitions were lost.

All was not lost however as I discovered this wonderful utility called TestDisk I was able to run it and recover all my data which was a big relief. I then backed up everything onto my NAS box and did a reformat and installed Ubuntu as my main operating system and I am no 100% windows free!
